To celebrate Tyler’s birthday on Monday, we bought two plants, two turtles, a space heater, our usual dinner, and several desserts. The greatest part though? As we were walking from class, fighting the frigid blasts of wind, our China aunt called me over and handed me a package from Tyler’s mom and stepdad. Tyler opened it as a birthday gift, but it was a treat for both of us. When I saw chips and salsa, I almost cried. We have been in Over-Processed-Food Heaven! We were like glutinous children, leaving us with the best tummy aches in history. It was a modest celebration, but he gets to say that he spent his 24th birthday in China. I can dig it.
I got the model photos back, but my internet has been shoddy lately; thus, I am unable to post them.
We have been playing tons of badminton, even in the cold and rain. Dad and I used to play on the court in the backyard at the house in Buda. By the way, I also really miss my dad. I think about him a lot. People are able to get used to just about anything, and I have gotten used to living here. Because of this, I know that, if I wanted to, I could live here for much longer. I have stopped missing most everything, excluding Chuy’s jalepeno ranch dressing, yet I cannot shake my need for my people...nor do I want to.
In other news, school has been cancelled for 7 days. We don’t teach again until next Wednesday, the 25th. Six students had confirmed cases of swine flu, so all of the students were sent home for a week. All students, that is, except for Senior 3 students because they have their huge university entrance exams to take in January.
Have a fantastic Thanksgiving! I think I’ll be fine without all my family, friends, televised parades, and delicious food...

Happy Birthday to Tyler! Processed food! I just bought some Barbara's shredded oat squares. Tasty--not too sweet, too.
ReplyDeleteI miss you, Bee. Aaron said he saw a girl that looks like you in the grocery store, yesterday, but that cannot be true. You're far away. Not in one of Denton's three Krogers.
No swine flu for you. No. Be well.
xoxo
Hi Bethany,
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Tyler! So glad to hear from you & hope you had a good Thanksgiving. We were with our best friends from Texas & watched UT/A&M game then played Spades. Had a great time. Loyd drove Katy home after we ate - they were bored. Loyd turned 18 & finally got his driver's license. We are looking at cars (cheap ones!). Katy had strep 2X then got Toxic Shock Syndrome & was in the hospital for 5 days. Almost lost her. Now she is peeling like a snake and itchy but back to her usual teenie bopper self. We miss you & I pray for your health daily. Love to T. Auntie Kayla
